Round 27 bingo card - Shopping Together
Mar. 22nd, 2025 11:11 amStill buzzing from winning their fourth gym badge as a team, Ruby followed her friends down the crowded streets of Burlywood. The plan for the day was to go shopping for new fancy outfits for the gala they were going to tomorrow evening, then to spend the rest of the day at the Burlywood theme park. She was excited about visiting the theme park, after all she had not been to one before.
However, the thought of the gala still made her stomach turn. She was not looking forward to seeing any members of her family that were going to be there. Aunt Lyra was hosting, which meant her father and daughter, Suzie were going to be there. Add that to the confirmation of Ruby's own father being there as the supplier for the eggs that were gonna be sold at the silent auction. Yeah, if Ruby had a list of some of her least favourite family members, three of the four that would be at the gala would be in her top 5. Despite that she was determined to go and have a good time with her friends. Ruby was not gonna let her family hold her back anymore.
The change from the warm late summer air to the blast of a cool air conditioner altered Ruby to their arrival at the clothing store that Evira had picked out the day before. The purple haired girl immediately placed Steevee on the floor, her and the flareon dash off deeper into the store.
Ruby gave a side glance at Jax, who was equally surprised at the speed at which the ‘not heavy just fluffy’ pokemon had taken off. The pair have to almost break into a jog to catch up to the girl and her pokemon.
“So do you two have any ideas on what you would like to try?” Evira asked, piling numerous different pieces of clothing onto her arm as she continued to walk around the store.
Jax shrugged, telling Evira that he trusted her judgement.
“Well,” Ruby started, rubbing her upper arm. “I-i was maybe thinking of trying a dress…”
Evira smiled and nodded. “Specifics?”
Ruby paused, she hadn't really thought that far ahead.
“Something not revealing, maybe knee length? And I'd like to try wearing green for a change… maybe trying heels too.”
All Evira did was give Steevee a look and the flareon was off sprinting around the store collecting what he can and returning it to Evira. Meanwhile, Evira guided the others over to the changing rooms. She handed Ruby an armful of dresses in a variety of shades of greens, before eagerly shoving the taller girl into one of the changing rooms.
The first dress Ruby tried on was emerald green with long sleeves that hugged her figure down to the knees before becoming flowy. The back had a deep v shape that showed off her skin. She frowned looking at herself in the mirror, it was a nice dress, but she definitely did not have the curves for it. Quite honestly it made her feel like a washboard.
She quickly shrugged it off and returned the dress to its hanger, hanging it up on what would now be her reject pile.
The next couple of dresses still didn't feel right. There was always something off with each of them. Too tight, too short, the wrong shade. Maybe it was just that she wasn't used to wearing dresses anymore?
It was as she was examining herself in the fourth dress she'd tried on that she heard her friends calling to her.
“Rubbbbyyyyy! You're supposed to be showing me what you're trying on!” Evira had a playful whine to her voice which was matched by Steevee making noise of agreement.
“Yeah Ruby, I thought you weren't one of those girls that likes to take forever to vet ready.” Added Jax.
Ruby poked her head around the curtain of the changing room and stuck her tongue out at Jax.
“I haven't found one that suits me yet.”
“At least show me the one you're trying on now!” Evira requested, directing pleading eyes at Ruby.
Ruby huffed and stepped out of the changing room. She was currently wearing a mint green dress that has one strap on the left side; the skirt stopping just above the knee on the same side, going down to the ankle on the opposite side.
“It's cute,” Evira commented, looking Ruby over. “But if you're not comfortable in it then we can look for something else.”
Ruby nodded and glanced over to Jax. Who was currently dressing up his Cubone, Kizmet, in different top hats and bow ties. It was clear that he had no input to give on the dress Ruby was going to wear to the gala.
“Well I have a couple more to try on, so I try those before looking for more.” She said, returning her gaze to Evira. “Though don't expect me to show you every one, otherwise we'll be here forever.”
Evira sighed, but agreed and Ruby returned to the changing room. Fortunately, it only took two more dresses for her to find the one.
It was a bright green knee length dress where the skirt flared out from the tight top with short off the shoulder sleeves that had a ruffle that went all the way around the top of the dress. Seeing herself in this dress put a smile on Ruby's face. She swished the skirt back and forth, letting out a quiet giggle.
This was the prettiest she had felt in a long time…
With a bright smile on her face, Ruby steps out of the changing room.
“This is the one”
Evira's eyes light up at the sight of Ruby.
“Ruby! You look so cute!” She cheered.
“Thanks.” Ruby replied, blushing.
Evira quickly instructed Steevee to return the other dresses and to return with heels to match the dress. Somehow the flareon found the perfect pair.
After trying on the shoes Ruby returned to the dressing room to change back into her clothes. Checking her phone she realised that they had been there for over an hour. She internally cringed at that, realising that she was the one that took the longest to choose. Deciding not to waste anymore time that could be spent at the theme park, Ruby rushed to change.
Stepping out of the changing room for the final time; dress folded over her arm, Ruby joined the waiting pair and their pokemons. The trio of trainers paid for the items and walked back to the pokemon center to drop off their shopping; making light conversation along the way. Excitement evident for what is yet to come.
